Dear First Family,
This past weekend we entered into a new season in which we will be focusing on the theme of Life Together. In the coming months, we are going to be looking at the meaning and purpose of our participation in Christian community as well as the key practices and values of the life we share in Christ.
Last weekend, we looked at the question, “Is Christian Community an essential part of the Christian life or an enhancement to our life with Christ?” If you missed that, you can listen or watch that here. This week, we will be looking at some of the false expectations that can actually undermine the health of the community we seek to build with one another.
I hope to see you this weekend as we continue our focus on Life Together.
I also wanted to extend the invitation for you to join our staff for a special conference we will be simulcasting in our sanctuary this coming week.
I have attended the New Room conference for almost a decade – a gathering of those within the Wesleyan tradition focused on praying and seeking another great awakening.
That conference will begin on Wednesday at 1pm and end on Friday morning. If you are unable to attend during the day, there are two evening sessions on Wednesday and Thursday at 7pm. All are welcome to be a part of any or all of this conference gathering.
Our entire staff will be participating so if you have any needs during those days, feel free to email us at info@fmcm.org. You can also send a text to 817-477-6498 and a member of our staff will get back to you shortly.
On a final note, I want to mention that our Pastors Bible Study focused on the book of James got off to a great start this past Wednesday morning.
That will be happening at 9:30am in our chapel each week and is also available online. I started Pastors Bible Study almost eight years ago for several reasons. One of those is because I became a Christian after a year-long study through the entire Bible led by my youth pastor. That season of deep engagement with the scriptures changed my life forever.
I also know that many feel intimidated about reading the Bible themselves and I wanted to provide a place where people might see an increase in their confidence and desire to study the scriptures.
This last week, I shared a short handout about how to engage the scriptures from Eugene Peterson, whose most well-known work is The Message Bible. I’ve made that available here for anyone who might be interested in learning more about how we intentionally seek life while engaging with The Word of Life.
I love you and I am proud of you,
Pastor David
