Begin this new day by praying this prayer out loud. As you are able, consider kneeling as a physical expression of your commitment to Jesus as Lord of your life and the one you desire to lead you this day. Alternatively, you might consider placing a hand over your heart as you pray this prayer.

I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things
to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.

The Wesley Covenant Prayer was written by Rev. John Wesley, the 18th century Anglican priest who was the founder of the Methodist Movement.

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Philippians 2:1-4

This charge from Paul seems impossible right now. In the midst of 2020, how can we possibly be like-minded, love each other completely, and look to the interests of others above our own? Paul says we become united around the love we receive from Christ and the love we share with each other. In doing so the Spirit speaks to us, joins us in love, to rally around the one most important thing – Love itself.

Jesus continues to usher in the kingdom of God here on earth. How? By loving God and loving others. How do we join this effort? By loving God and loving others. This, as Christians, will allow us to be “one in spirit and of one mind.”

What if the next time you find yourself disagreeing with someone, you asked yourself, “In this moment, how do I love God and love others?”
