Tuesday May 10, 2022
Today is Tuesday, May 10th and this week we are exploring being sanctified in God’s truth.
Opening Prayer
As I enter this time of prayer, I pause to become still. I calm my thoughts and silence my mind as I focus on the God who loves me.
Pause and Pray
Holy Lord God, here I am. I long to spend time with you and know you more. Give me an awareness of your presence now and through the rest of my day by the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
Scripture Reading
I rejoice in God’s faithful deliverance with the words of Psalm 86.
Teach me your way, Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me from the depths,
from the realm of the dead.Psalm 86:11-13
Pause and Pray
Paul sat in prison knowing he would soon be executed, when he wrote final words to his “true son in the faith,” Timothy. His goal was to encourage Timothy and to pass on the torch of leadership. Timothy was one of the first second-generation Christians. He became a believer because of the discipleship of his mother and grandmother and he would have been able to recite many of the Old Testament scriptures. Knowing this, Paul tells Timothy to continue learning from the Holy Scriptures so that he may be equipped to carry on living a godly life in Christ Jesus.
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:14-17
Reflection
I imagine Paul writing these same words to me today. I know that I am being sanctified by the truth of God’s Word. Therefore, I long to have the wisdom that comes from spending time, by the power of the Holy Spirit, learning what The Bible reveals. God’s Holy and Living Word is what shows me how to live righteously. In a world that tells everyone “live your truth”, knowing and following God’s truth guides my thoughts, words, and actions as a maturing disciple of Jesus.
Ask: How can I get to know the Holy Scriptures better? How can I use God’s Word to guide me throughout the day?
Pause and Pray
Holy Lord God, thank you for your son, Jesus, who has given me salvation through faith in him. You are so good to me. I praise you for the gift of wisdom given to me by knowing the Holy Scriptures. Help me to use your Word to equip me in doing work that brings glory to you. I reread the words from 2 Timothy and seek your message for me today.
Ask: What image, word or phrase stands out to me when I slowly read this passage? What is God trying to say to me through these words of scripture?
God knows my personal story of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. He has been with me as I have spent time in his precious Word. His Spirit guides me through scripture, revealing more of himself to me as I am shaped for the tasks he has for me. As I keep my ears open for God to speak to me throughout the day, I pay attention to how God may be showing me truth, exposing my rebellion, correcting my mistakes, or training me to live his way.
Pause and Pray
Come, Holy Spirit; I need your power to be sanctified by God’s Word. Show me how to live according to the truth revealed to me in scripture. Amen
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
Psalm 119:105
Closing Prayer
As I leave this time of prayer, I go seeking to be set apart from the world by knowing and living in accordance with God’s true word.
Amen
