Senior year is a time of significant transition and growth. You will experience a shift in responsibility and a growing sense of independence. Challenges will arise as some of the habits, behaviors and beliefs that have gotten you through your younger years don’t hold up as you prepare for life after high school. Unfortunately, this is a common time when young adults get “lost” – whether that’s in terms of career, school, relationships or faith. The Capstone program was developed years ago specifically for students in their final year of high school to help tackle these issues.
What is Capstone?
Capstone is a 12-week program in the spring semester, beginning with an all day retreat to Glen Lake Camp on Saturday, January 15th, and ending with our annual Senior Celebration on Sunday, May 15th. Weekly gatherings will take place Sunday evenings immediately following United Worship.
The goals of Capstone are to PREPARE Seniors for life as a Christ follower after high school. CONNECT students with God and with their peers. SERVE those within our ministry, congregation and community and LEAD through different avenues of Students Ministries and First Methodist Mansfield. We accomplish these goals by combining deep Christ-centered discussions with hands-on activities that help develop important life skills.
In addition to finishing the year more prepared for life after high school, both practically and spiritually, we expect that you’ll have an expanded network of spiritual leaders, mentors and peers to help support you throughout your senior year and beyond. We pray that this experience provides our students with the confidence to take on the exciting next chapter of their life, whatever that may look like, with a foundation rooted in Christ Jesus. Registration is required to participate in Capstone.
