Pastor David's Thought for the Week

by Pastor David Alexander
Pastor David's Thought for the Week

Dear First Family,

Today I have significant news to share and to celebrate with you.

When I came to Mansfield in 2005 it was at the invitation of Rev. Mike Ramsdell who was the Senior Pastor of our church at that time. Coming here I knew the incredible fruitfulness of Mike’s ministry. What I could never have anticipated was how much his mentoring would shape and mold me as a husband, a father and a pastor in the 11 years that we worked together.

Mike served First Methodist Mansfield for more than 20 years before being asked by our Bishop in 2016 to serve as a District Superintendent supporting and supervising many local churches in the greater Fort Worth area.

More recently Mike has served the entire Central Texas Conference area in the area of Evangelism & Church Growth supervising and mentoring pastors leading new faith communities and equipping local churches to reach and engage their communities in new ways. For those who know Mike, it will not surprise you that the fruitfulness of churches all around the Central Texas area has multiplied as a result of his wisdom and coaching.

This past fall Pastor Mike notified our Bishop of his intention to retire from full-time ministry effective September 1st, 2020. Mansfield is still home for Mike and his wife Rhonda. These past few years when he has not been required to be elsewhere for worship, they have been here in one of our weekend services. Mike has also preached and taught classes here during the course of that time. He remains the most significant mentor in my life and I know that Mike and Rhonda are dear friends to many of you as well.

And so it is with great joy that I share with you today that Mike has accepted our invitation to serve here as our Pastor Emeritus after his retirement this September. In this role, Mike will primarily be focused on what he has already done on a limited basis in recent years, teaching Bible study classes and preaching on occasion in our main weekend services.

As you would expect, Mike and Rhonda are looking forward to retirement, their opportunity to travel together and to spend more time with their three children, 10 grandchildren (with one more on the way) and one great-grandchild. I am immensely grateful that this new chapter in their life together will also include an opportunity for them to continue blessing First Methodist Mansfield.

Pastor Mike will be preaching all our sanctuary services next weekend, March 7th & 8th. Feel free to share your congratulations with Pastor Mike and Rhonda if you happen to see them at church or around town.

When you do, don’t forget to also add, “welcome home!”

Grace & Peace,

Pastor David
